Since the early days when humans first became aware that properly focused beams of electrons in a cathode-ray tube could form moving pictures—thank you, Philo Farnsworth!—television commercials have evolved from simple endorsements and jingles into a true art form. TV ads convey joy, desire, compassion, envy, and humor—at least the good ones do.

To help us choose BMWs during our car-buying rituals, BMW USA produces commercials that are at times clever, at times educational, and sometimes even inspirational.

Would you believe that a British version of this commercial was banned in the U.K. for promoting dangerous driving? And the English wonder why we didn’t want to be their colony anymore.
