Various BMW 3 Series models were victims of last year's recalls involving Takata airbag inflators, but now another problem has popped up, affecting some BMW X5s built in 2014 and 2015.

The problem involves those airbags that comprise the Head Protection System, or HPS. The HPS airbag may not be securely connected to the airbag inflator gas generator, so it may be possible that in an impact, the airbag might not inflate completely. Such a failure could lead to injuries.

The specific models involved include X5 xDrive35d vehicles built between August 19, 2014 and February 16, 2015; and X5 xDrive35i, X5 sDrive35i, and X5 xDrive50i vehicles manufactured between August 28, 2014 and February 16, 2015.

Dealers will replace the Head Protection System components at no charge. Owners should be notified soon, since the recall is scheduled to start the first of April (no joke).—Scott Blazey
