In the Letters section of the December 2014 issue of Roundel, member Tom Betlow brought up the rarity of the 30 Jahre M5 and referenced Satch's article, "Measuring the worth of the priceless". Tom has a good point that the 30 Jahre M5 is a rare-bird with the fact that only 300 were produced and that you couldn't buy one through a dealership. This should definitely help their future value.

Satch's response was defintitely classic Satch! Here is what he had to say:

"It is very dificult to pin down the collector value of any specific variant of a 20,000-unit production run—and I could be entirely wrong about this, but if any F10 M5 ever brings more than $250,000 at auction, I will start munching my fedora."

Well you probably noticed that the last 30 Jahre M5 sold at Barrett-Jackson on January 15 for $700,000 to famed NASCAR team owner and BMW dealer Rick Hendrick. You can read the entire story and watch the auction here.

So Satch, how do you want your fedora prepared?—Nate Risch
