Club News

This past weekend, BMW CCA Club racers once again came out in force to kick off the Allegheny Chapter's annual festivities at the historic-car races at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. This year, the historic races has expanded to three full race days, and the expanded track continues to bring out interesting machinery. As always, the Chapter’s hospitality was first rate, and a big thank you goes out to Bobby Rahal BMW of the South Hills who sponsored the Chapter’s compound.

The Chapter’s car corral featured several interesting vehicles. In addition to some great vintage machinery, the PittRace Coral featured two BMW i8’s! The i8’s are always interesting to look at and made for a wonderful contrast to Paul Wegweiser’s well-worn—but much loved—2002tii. It was also great to see vintage 2002 race cars on track this year! As always, the racing was entertaining, and Brett and Dee Sutton did a fabulous job organizing the weekend. A big thank you goes out to all of the drivers and fans who came out!

Of course, the best part is still ahead as the PVGP heads to Schenley Park this upcoming weekend for the main event. We expect 180 race cars and over 2000 show cars to make the journey to the grand old park. There is still time to join us!

Online registration for the Schenley Park weekend will remain open through Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Walk-up registrations will also be accepted at the park, but lunches may sell out! All BMW’s of any model or year are welcome—so don’t wait any longer—register now!

Friday, July 15th

This year’s Friday drive will head to Indiana, PA. The drive promises to make for a great day with a planned visit to the Jimmy Stewart Museum.

The Chapter’s Friday evening welcome reception will take place at Gaetano’s restaurant. To help raise funds for the PVGP charities, we will once again have a silent auction during the dinner. The evening is always a nice way to start the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday, July 16–17

Join us in the BMW CCA Corral with reserved trackside parking, catered lunches, and a hospitality tent. We are happy to welcome back Spaten as the Club’s official Social Partner! Watch the vintage racing through the streets of Schenley Park within 250 feet of our tent! Check out more than 2000 show cars!

Don't miss the opportunity for a "quick" tour of the race course with BMW Performance Center driver Mike Renner. Charity rides are a thrilling experience and proceeds benefit a great cause! Nothing else in the country compares with the Schenley Park experience!
