BMW News

In the BMW world, ETK is short for the BMW Elektronic Teile Katalog, or in English, the BMW Electronic Parts Catalog. As you have probably guessed, this is not a catalog of electronic parts; but rather, a parts catalog delivered electronically.

Now and then, something new and interesting shows up in the BMW ETK. Last week, the European Editor of the f30post forum on Bimmerpost.com, noticed something new and interesting: BMW factory GoPro camera mounts.

The mounts are not available right now. The ETK listing does not have part numbers for the mounts, so they can’t be ordered yet, but they are in the catalog and presumably, will be available before long.

On newer BMWs and Minis, drivers can control their onboard, wireless Bluetooth-equipped GoPro cameras through the iDrive controller and central control display. It appears from the photos that one camera mount will fit between the seat headrest uprights, and the other will screw into the front (and we assume rear) tow hook receptacles.

It also appears from the pictures that the GoPro mounts will be marked as M Performance parts. This probably means they will be not cheap.

Most GoPro cameras come with an assortment of mounting options. The old GoPro Motorsport package, for example, had adhesive and suction mounts that were strong and reliable, but for the new GoPro Hero4, the suction mount is extra. The two new BMW GoPro mounts appearing in the ETK look to be strong, reliable, and convenient. We look forward to seeing them in person.—Scott Blazey
