Turner Motorsport Z4 GT3 racer Bill Ziegler finished fifth and his teammate Bret Curtis finished seventh in the GTA class in the first of two Pirelli World Challenge 50-minute sprints run at Mid-Ohio on August 1 and 2. Frank Montecalvo won the class in a Mercedes AMG SLS GT3.
In the weekend’s second sprint Curtis finished sixth and Ziegler finished ninth; the GTA win went to Bryan Heitkotter in a Nissan GT-R GT3. Ziegler won the Optima Batteries Best Standing Start Award for gaining four positions at the start of the race.
Ryan Dalziel took the overall win in both races in a Porsche 911 GT3R, leading from flag to flag both days. The GT and GTA classes run again at Miller Motorsports Park on August 21-23.—Brian S. Morgan
