BMW works-supported teams used the VLN season opener as a test day for the May 27-28 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. Schubert Motorsport, Rowe Racing and BMW Team Schnitzer participated.

The best finishing BMW in a race won by Patrick Pilet, Romain Dumas, and Fred Makowiecki in a Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 R was the fifteenth-place Schubert M6 GT3 driven by Jens Klingmann, John Edwards, and Tom Onslow Cole.

The M235i Racing Cup class, with 22 entrants, was won by Thomas Jäger and Rudi Adams. American IMSA CTSC racers James Clay and Tyler Cooke, on hand in preparation for their entry in the 24-hour race, finished eighteenth in class in an M235i R that they shared with Charlie Postins.

BMW Motorsport also used the race as a test session for the M4 GT4, with Dirk Adorf and Phillip Eng at the controls.—Brian S. Morgan
