First response professionals descended on Hanover, Germany from June 8 to 13 for Interschutz 2015, the world’s leading trade fair for the rescue and fire prevention industries. More than 1,400 companies from 49 countries presented the latest technologies and equipment to professionals from the fields of rescue, fire prevention, civil protection, and safety. Interschutz is held every five years.

BMW presented representative examples of its emergency services vehicles. The company has been building such vehicles for many decades. This year, BMW brought both two- and four-wheel samples.

Finding yet another use for its BMW i3 electric vehicle, BMW showed off its i3 fire service command vehicle—a first for an i car. Next was the BMW X3 xDrive20d fire service vehicle.

Getting to the fire fast is certainly important, and the BMW R 1200 RT Firexpress emergency motorcycle will do that and have some firefighting capability when it gets there. The second bike BMW brought to Interschutz was the BMW F 800 GS emergency motorcycle.

All the BMWs at Interschutz 2015 look great and we suspect they perform their emergency duties admirably. We’ll probably never see them over here, but if we could, and if we were in the firefighting business, we’d probably pick the R 1200 RT Firexpress. For style points alone, we could show up at fires like the Judge Dredd of firefighting.—Scott Blazey
