For a commercial to get your attention, it must not be ordinary—and as much as we like watching BMW M4s tear up a race track, that's pretty ordinary. But put that race track on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, and it’s no longer ordinary. That’s what BMW Canada did in its latest commercial touting the handling and performance of the new F82 M4.

The premise is that if your hot car has the ability to go fast on a track, and still has the control to keep from flinging itself off the deck of a moving aircraft carrier, it must be great. Fair enough; that’s interesting—and it makes us want to watch the car, which is the purpose of the commercial.

Sure, we know the carrier is CGI (computer-generated imaging). And yet, when the M4 starts its drift around the hairpin, and it’s wheels are inches from the edge, you can’t help but wonder if this time, the driver might not catch it in time to keep the car from slipping off.

Fans of aircraft carriers might want to look away, but fans of BMW M cars—enjoy.—Scott Blazey
