The weather cooperated and everything came together to make the Boston Chapter’s 2015 Concours d' Elegance at Larz Anderson Auto Museum a big success! The planning for this year's concours started in the early spring. The chapter budgeted and planned for 130 cars and ended up with 176 participants—a fantastic turn-out and possibly a new Chapter record!

Fifty-six cars in judged categories

There were 32 cars that pre-registered to be judged which really helped speed up the check-in process. An additional 24 cars arrived the day of the event which participated in judged categories. The gate registration crew for cars to be judged was overseen by myself and included Cristina Mangini, Dana Russian and Tod Bryant. The team did an outstanding job getting all the judged cars, with their paperwork, onto Lawn A in a timely fashion.

Over 120 cars in Display Only

In the Display Only category there were 9 pre-registered cars, but an impressive 112 additional participants arrived the day of the event. Andrew Plante oversaw the Display Only registration gate with assistance from Tom Samuelson. They did an outstanding job, especially considering the number of Display Only participants that arrived.

Volunteers run the event like a well tuned BMW

Crucial to a large event such as the Concours are the volunteers that unselfishly give up a summer day to help out and make the event run smoothly. The people helping with Judged Parking on Lawn A, being overseen by Roy Wicklund, were Matt Bagedonow & David Scott. In Display Only parking Tim Howell and Howard Miller were instrumental in getting the many cars parked on Lawn B.

At the Front Gate doing Triage, sending participants to the correct gate registration was accomplished by Clint Gilbert, Jeff Devolve and Eduardo McIntosh. At the Judged Registration Gate Frank Charmley was the guru in charge of passing out T-shirts.

Judging was directed by Duane Sword as Head Judge (Dan Mull has retired) with a full team of judges helping, including: Roy Wicklund, Dana Russian, David Scott, Sharon Wulf, Lecia Shronce, Jim Levandoski, John Nitzke, Clint Gilbert, and Stan Chamallas. Duane Sword and Roy Wicklund selected a winner from the Display Only class in addition to the People’s Choice award voted on by participants.

Pre-registration and Scoring was managed by Mitch Brown with the help of Christina Mangini and Marcy Venezia. This team crunched the numbers once a car had been completely judged, to determine the winners in each class.

Special thanks go out to Mitch who this year fully automated the Preregistered paperwork (both the registration/judging sheet and the window placards). By automating the pre-registered participants in Judged or Display Only, Mitch saved our team a lot of time and manual labor before the Concours.

Museum ads helped draw a crowd

The Larz Anderson staff had placed adver - tisements in both Auto Week Magazine and Hemmings Newsletter about this year’s event, which brought additional participants to the Lawn. However, with the huge field of participants, we had to start judging by 11 a.m. to allow enough time to complete judg - ing, total the scores, and review the results to insure proper winners in each category.

Special thanks to our sponsors

The Chapter would like to thank this year’s Title Sponsor Turner Motorsport of Amesbury. Thank you to Will Turner and Jay Baier who helped with the sponsorship. We would also like to recognize Alvin Lui, Owner of Import AutoWerks, in Braintree for the financial assistance that he provided. Finally, I would like to thank Chris DiMinico, VP of Protective Solutions in Holliston for helping with sponsorship monies.
