Team Sahlen has announced that it will not run its two Riley-BMW prototypes in the Tudor United Sportscar Championship series in 2014. Both racer.com and sportscar365.com report that the team will run in an IMSA series, but it will not campaign the Dinan-BMW-powered prototypes. The team had previously said that it would run both of its DP cars in the new series.

Sahlen’s exit, following on the heels of Ganassi Racing’s defection to Ford, leaves no BMW-powered Daytona Prototypes committed to the entire TUSC season. However, the Highway To Help team, which ran two races in 2013, will run a Riley-BMW in the TUSC test days at Daytona in November.

While Team Sahlen did not win any races in 2013, its first year running in the DP class, it scored two poles; Dane Cameron placed the team’s #42 car on the pole at both Road America and Lime Rock. Cameron and Wayne Nonnamaker scored the team’s best finishes, a fourth at Belle Isle and another at Lime Rock.—Brian S. Morgan
