BMW News

The BMW X5 is no stranger to the Nürburgring. Each iteration of BMW’s first Sports Activity Vehicle has been tested there. In 2000, Hans Stuck lapped the Nürburgring in under eight minutes in a one-of-a-kind X5 powered by the same V12 engine that had won Le Mans overall the year before.

As this video shows, the latest X5 is obviously back on the ‘Ring. This time it appears to be an M version of the F85 BMW X5.

The previous version of the X5 M based on the E70 X5 was last produced as a 2013 model, so it’s time for a new one. The older X5 M’s 4.4-liter V8 with twin turbochargers produced 555 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque, and took the two-and-a-half-ton beast from zero to 60 mph in four seconds. To slow it down, the old X5 M had the biggest brakes of any BMW production vehicle.
