Consumers are keeping their vehicles longer, increasing the need for engine protection and maintenance.

According to a recent analysis of national vehicle registration data conducted by Polk, the average length of vehicle ownership has increased more than 50 percent in the last 10 years (from 35 months in 2001 to 53 months in 2011).

At the same time, the modern vehicle features increasingly advanced engine technologies which require fuels that can withstand their unique operating conditions.

- According to industry forecasts, new vehicle production with advanced engine technologies will show sizable increases in the coming years.

- J.D. Power and Associates forecasts the number of direct injection engines to more than triple in the next four years.

- IHS Automotive predicts that one fifth of all North American-produced engines will be turbocharged or supercharged in the next two years -- up from approximately 12 percent in 2011.

- Many BMWs feature such technologies -- the 2012 3-SERIES was recently announced with a slew of drivetrain options, including 240-hp, 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-four cylinder; 300-hp, twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder; 335-hp, twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder hybrid powertrain. So do the new M5 and 1-series M Coupe, which are both getting a lot of praise. All of these engines also feature BMW’s “High Precision Injection” technology.

Shell is launching its NEW Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines to address the increasing need for engine protection.

In modern engines, like direct injection and turbo-charged, fuel injectors are subject to greater heat and pressure, which can cause a breakdown of cleaning agents. The NEW Shell Nitrogen Enriched Cleaning System is designed to maintain thermal stability and work under extremely hot engine temperatures actively protecting against performance-robbing gunk.

- With 20% more of the Shell Nitrogen Enriched Cleaning System, the patented formula, exclusive to Shell, actively protects intake valves and fuel injectors from performance-robbing gunk.  No other gasoline protects your engine better.

While different brands may share the same fuel terminal, brands blend this fuel with a unique additive package, differentiating its fuels from others.

These gasoline additives are specialized chemical agents that can improve fuel quality and performance.

Lower quality gasoline has insufficient cleaning agents to prevent harmful carbon deposit build-up in some cars.

The Environmental Protection Agency requires a minimum level of cleaning agents to help control tailpipe emissions.

- Some companies, such as Shell, use higher levels of cleaning agents, which can offer additional benefits.

- However a significant amount of gasoline sold in the US contains insufficient cleaning agents to protect critical engine parts.

- Dirty intake valves and fuel injectors may prevent an engine from working efficiently and can cause drivability problems.

Shell V-Power® Premium Gasoline boasts the highest concentration of the NEW Shell Nitrogen Enriched Cleaning System and is designed to clean engine intake valves even faster than regular Shell gasolines.

No other premium gasoline protects fuel injectors and intake valves better than Shell V-Power. Shell V-Power helps deliver maximum protection for optimum performance.
