BMW is three for three in ALMS GT competition
The #56 BMW Team RLL M3 of Joey Hand and Dirk Müller started from the GT class pole at the Lime Rock American Le Mans Series race, led the entire distance, and won the 2 ¾-hour Saturday afternoon enduro.
Hand and Müller picked up where they had left off at the last ALMS race at Long Beach in April. They won there, and had also won the season opener at Sebring, where they had shared the car with Andy Priaulx.
The #55 M3 of Dirk Werner and Bill Auberlen had started second on the grid. It was running third early in the race on Werner’s stint when it became the victim in a four-car incident that also involved both of the GT class Corvettes. It was able to return to the race after a long stop in which the entire front end of the car was replaced, but was well down in the standings on its return to competition.
Hand said after the race, “The car is the best it’s been. It’s about the balance. BMW Dunlop, and Team RLL have brought everything together. It’s a great car to drive.”
