BMW Motorsport will keep Augusto Farfus and Joey Hand at BMW Team RBM for the 2014 season. Driver assignments on the other three DTM teams are being shuffled.
BMW Team RBM finished second in DTM team points in 2013, and Farfus finished second in drivers’ points.
Two past DTM champions will be paired at BMW Team Schnitzer. Martin Tomcyzk, the 2011 DTM champion (with Audi, before BMW returned to DTM) will move to Team Schnitzer, where he will be paired with Bruno Spengler, who won the drivers’ championship at Schnitzer in 2012.
Timo Glock, who came to DTM from Formula One in 2013, won the final race of the season at Hockenheim. He will remain at BMW Team MTEK, which was a new team in 2013. His teammate will be DTM rookie António Félix da Costa.
Marco Wittman, who ran with Team MTEK in 2013, is moving to BMW Team RMG, where he will partner with Maxime Martin. Martin is moving to DTM from BMW Team RLL in the US and from endurance racing in Z4s in Europe.
BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt said, “I think we have another very impressive looking line-up again in 2014. As far as the fans are concerned, I believe there is something there to suit everyone’s taste. BMW Team RMG undoubtedly failed to fulfill its potential last year. We are sure that Stefan Reinhold’s team will come back from the break reinvigorated and ready to get back to successful ways with Marco Wittmann and Maxime Martin. After a really successful first year in the DTM, Marco is definitely ready to take the next step. Augusto Farfus, Joey Hand and BMW Team RBM worked perfectly together in 2013. BMW Team MTEK and Timo Glock are extremely motivated for their second year in the DTM following the victory in Hockenheim – and they are very happy to welcome promising youngster António Félix da Costa on board. The combination of our two DTM champions, Bruno Spengler and Martin Tomczyk, with Charly Lamm’s team promises to be very successful. Like everyone else in the team, I cannot wait for the first race. We have an intense program of preparations with the BMW M4 DTM to complete before then.”
Testing for 2014 has already begun, although the 2014 M4 bodywork has not yet been revealed. The 2014 DTM season begins in May at Hockenheim.—Brian S. Morgan
