The Nurburgring was closed for a while recently, when BMW's M5 Ring-Taxi was totaled.
Bad news for fans of the M5 Ring-Taxi because just a year and a half after it was introduced to the famous German track, the powerful sedan has been crashed. According to the guys at Bridge to Gantry, the model in question met its end at high-speed, on a left corner after the Karussell, a corner often taken at speeds at more than 100 mph. These BMWs are driven by expert drivers, who are qualified to drive M cars on the track with paying passengers. Happily, no one was injured in the incident.
The BMW M5 Ring-Taxi is powered by a 4.4 liter V8 bi-turbo engine, just like every other M5 F10 out there, and produces 560 bhp. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes 4.4 seconds, while the 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) is accomplished in 13 seconds. Normally, top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, but with the M Driver’s Package, it can go up to 190 mph, and you can bet this car had that. The average fuel consumptionwas at 9.9L / 100km (but who cares what that means) and powerwas sent to the rear-wheel drive through a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic.—Paul Duchene
