I purchased this car near Atlanta, GA in complete, but nasty condition in March 2025. The car had not been driven in 6 years, but had been started at least once a year and allowed to warm up to operating temp. Full Records, History and CarFax included. All major systems (brakes, cooling, motor, Motronic ECU, Air Flow Meter, tires and wheels, fuel tank, filters, electrical, etc.) have been replaced or refurbished. The Instrument Cluster and Service Indicator Circuit has been 100% restored by Bavarian Restoration in CA...that alone was $1,100, but worth it! The car is very solid, mechanically and a good "driver". I have driven it hundred's of miles in Atlanta stop and go traffic as well as mountains, highway, etc. and it really drives nicely. The front suspension components are worn and there is a vibration at 60mph. It smooths out at 70mph! Overall, I give it an honest 8 / 10 for mechanical and electrical systems. (Yes, even the Cruise Control works!)
The interior is 100% complete and in presentable condition. There is the "old car smell" but the leather is soft and ready for renovation. The leather dash will need to be replaced eventually. Overall, I give the Interior an honest 8 / 10.
The paint is bad. There are a few small dents and dings. Bodywork and Paint gets a 6 / 10.
Here are the only items that are NOT working are the Air Conditioning, (Heater, Front Blower and Rear Blower work fine) and the Trip Computer,. The car really is an excellent candidate for "the next steps" of a full cosmetic restoration. I have full receipts for all work done that adds up to over $10,000 plus hundreds of hours of my time tinkering with the car!
Hagerty's Car Value suggests a #3 "Good" Car is worth $40,000 and a #4 "Fair" Car is worth $21,000. In my judgement, this 1987 M6 is worth more than $21k and less than $40k so the price of $27,000 is a reasonable "middle ground" compromise. Enlarge photos to see more details!
