As we travel to Taos, on our first night, We’re staying at the Best Western (806-372-1885 4600 I-40 East). If we get there early enough, we will dine on steaks at the Big Tex Steakhouse (just a couple of minutes east of the hotel) for dinner that night. If we don’t move quite quickly enough, we’ll stop in one of the smaller towns along the way.
We’ve reserved 12 king-bed rooms ($113.84 incl tax) so please call them directly with your credit card number (and mention you are with the Lonestar BMW Car Club group) to reserve a room. If you want 2 queen beds instead of one king, pls tell them when you reserve your room.
Friday morning will be the ‘official’ start of the tour and we’ll be making our first stop at the Palo Duro State Park. For those of you who think the Texas panhandle is as flat as a pancake, you’re in for a Texas-sized treat! Palo Duro Canyon is the 2nd largest canyon in the US and is worth the drive to Amarillo just to see it!
From the canyon, we’ll take as scenic a route as we can westward to Taos, arriving on Friday evening. We’ve reserved 8 king-bed rooms and 4 queen-bed rooms at the El Pueblo Lodge. The king rooms are $152 per night (incl tax) and have fireplaces in each room. The queen rooms are priced at $124 per night (incl tax) and you can have one or two beds, depending upon your needs.
We have a number of cultural, sight-seeing, and shopping opportunities to enjoy in the Taos area. Saturday will be focused on local shopping for those so inclined and a 4-5 hour loop westward of Taos for those who are looking forward to some ‘spirited driving’. Sunday presents us with a very special opportunity to run down to Santa Fe for some not-so-typical shopping for those interested in boosting the local economy while the rest of us will be taking in the Santa Fe Concorso! (See info below)
Sunday evening, we’ll be departing Santa Fe for Tucumcari and staying at the Best Western there (pls call 575-461-4884 to grab one of the 12 rooms we’ve reserved for the group at a rate of $73.54 incl tax.)
Monday morning, we’ll be heading back east on I-40 through Amarillo and returning to the DFW area on hwy 287. Pls drop us an email when you rsvp to the hotels so that we can get an accurate head count of everyone!
