Restored Euro BMW 850CSi

Description
This 1994 BMW 850CSi was registered in Italy before it was partially refurbished in 2021 by M-Trex in IJmuiden, North Holland, and it was imported to the US before the current owner’s acquisition in 2022. Over $45k of subsequent work included overhauling the coolant system, rebuilding the brake booster and fuel injectors, refinishing the front valance, and replacing the starter, intake manifold blocks, driveline mounts, and assorted fuel delivery, ignition, electrical, and braking components. Specified in Orient Blue Metallic over two-tone gray leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 5.6-liter V12 linked to a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. European examples feature larger front brake rotors and rear-wheel steering, and additional equipment includes 17″ Style 21 “throwing star” wheels, replacement rear exhaust components, fog lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated power-adjustable front seats, and cruise control, a cassette stereo, and a Hi-Fi sound system. This E31 has 77k kilometers (~48k miles) and is now offered in New Jersey by the seller on behalf of the owner with manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment records and photos, a clean Carfax report, and a clean New Hampshire title in the name of the owner’s LLC. The 850CSi featured revised front and rear valances as well as a lowered ride height compared to other E31 coupes. This example is finished in Orient Blue Metallic and features pop-up headlights with washers as well as fog lights and black bodyside trim. A replacement M-Technic front bumper and front lip were installed under previous ownership, and the rear bumper cover has been repainted, per the seller. A replacement headlight washer pump, headlight seals, and headlight wiring harnesses were installed in 2023, and the lower portion of the front valance and chin spoiler were repainted in early 2024 to address scratches. The image above and the majority of the gallery photos were taken in March 2025. Forged-aluminum 17″ BMW Style 21 wheels wear directional “throwing star” covers and are mounted with 235/45 front and 255/45 Michelin Pilot Sport tires that were installed in 2022. The CSi features a lower ride height with stiffer springs and dampers compared to the standard 850, and European-market examples were equipped with larger 13.6″ floating front brake rotors as well as Active Rear-Axle Kinematic (AHK) rear-wheel steering. Work under previous ownership included replacing the front control arms, ball joints, and the rear brake pads and rotors. The brake booster was rebuilt and the brake master cylinder, accumulator, and rubber brake hoses at each corner were replaced under current ownership. The heated power-adjustable front seats and individual rear seats are upholstered in Dark Slate Gray leather with Light Silver Gray inserts. Equipment includes an onboard computer, dual-zone automatic climate control, driver position memory, lumbar adjustment for the front seats, a power-operated rear sun shade, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power-adjustable steering column, a cassette stereo, and a Hi-Fi sound system. The air conditioning compressor was replaced in 2021, and the front seat adjustment mechanisms were serviced during the refurbishment. The three-spoke sport steering wheel fronts a 300-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 77k kilometers (~48k miles). The steering wheel horn contact ring and the airbag control module were replaced between 2023 and 2024. The 5.6-liter S70B56 V12 features Bosch Motronic fuel injection and an engine oil cooler, and factory-rated output was 375 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. The engine was removed in 2021 and cleaned with dry ice along with the engine bay, remaining driveline components, suspension, and subframes. Invoices listing the refurbishments performed by M-Trex in Holland are viewable in the gallery below. Work performed in 2023 by Vintage Sports & Restorations LLC of Bedford, New Hampshire, included resealing the lower oil pan, rebuilding the fuel injectors, and replacing the following components: Radiator Water pump & thermostat Auxiliary water pump Coolant hoses Coolant expansion tank Heater control valve Serpentine belt & tensioner Fan clutch Starter Fuel level sending unit Intake manifold blocks Valve cover gaskets & breather check valves Air mass meter boots Fuel filters Rubber fuel hoses Spark plugs Ignition wires Distributor caps and rotors Engine mounts Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Work performed between 2021 and 2022 included rebuilding the differential, resurfacing the flywheel, and replacing the clutch, throwout bearing, transmission input shaft seal, flywheel bolts, and the exhaust system from the catalytic converters to the rear end. The fluids in the transmission and differential were changed under current ownership in 2023, and the transmission mount, driveshaft flex disc, and clutch hydraulic cylinders were also replaced. Additional photos of the underside condition are viewable in the gallery below. Photos taken during the refurbishment in Holland are viewable in the gallery below.
