Last week I attended a meeting at the BMW CCA Foundation in Greer, South Carolina. You know the place. It’s right next door to the BMW Performance Center East, down the street from the BMW Zentrum, and just across the road from BMW Plant Spartanburg.

Last week, Old Blue, the ’73 2002tii, was sold. The new owner, Richard, just picked it up, and he is driving it home to Baltimore. As I am someone who appears to be the walking personification of cash burning a hole in a pocket, you won’t be surprised to learn that the money wasn’t even in the bank, much less my pocket, before I bought something else.

The great Satchel Paige once replied to a sportswriter who asked his age, “How old would you be, if you didn’t know how old you was?” I think that this line must be the key to BMW enthusiasm—or maybe I am just delusional.

Last week, in my column on the beauty pageant of the three tii’s side-by-side, I said that I was readying Old Blue, the ’73, for sale. Oh, boy, did I ever find the right buyer.

My BMW is parked under my son’s bunk bed, and it has now been there for the past five years. Okay: Technically, only a part of the car is under his bed, and it’s not really parked there so much as it's holding up the bed.
