What's the trick ... using E46 jack?

I pray I never have to use it ... But, if I ever had to use the feeble little jack in the trunk of my 330Ci what's the trick to turning the crank? I twisted it every which way but because of the bend in the handle it hits the ground on every rotation. Needless to say, that won't work under the weight of the car.

Are you trying to jack it at the factory jack points? Have you consulted the owner's manual to assure you're using it correctly? You can download owner's manuals from bmwusa.com, if you don't have one.
I haven't needed to use a jack for years (other than a floor jack at home), but I'd carry a small block of wood (a piece of 2x6) to provide a larger surface for the trunk jack to sit on for stability.

Yes, did a "dry run" at a rear jack point. Also checked the manual for some hints, but it doesn't really go into any detail on this subject. I like the idea of a stable base, but honestly the zhp is so low I'm not sure the jack would fit under the car if it rested on a 2x6. Honestly, I'd probably call BMW Road Assist, but I'd like to know.
