What is this part from an 03 E46?

    Please see picture below; would any of you happen to know what this part is? I found it in the trunk but I don't even know if it belongs there. I can't remember if I or my wife or daughter found it elsewhere in the car and put it in the trunk. Could this possibly have anything to do with my "service engine light" coming on? I appreciate any expertise you might have.

    can't identify it for sure but its a temperature sensor on first examination. Seeing as it exhibits some rubber seals I suspect things could be a lot worse then just a light being on. It also looks new. no compression on the seals. Did you just get the car?

    Does it have a part number

    Does it have a part number marked on it? It looks like it could be an intake air temperature sensoe. But a quick look on reaoem.com shows a very different looking intake air temperature snseor.

    What engine does your car have? 325 or 330?
