Googling "BMW" and the part number brought up several other vendors, again nobody priced as low as getbmwparts. If you have a preferred vendor other than getbmwparts, they might have a price-matching policy.
Thanks for the help. I have to wait for wife to bring it home so I can investigate a bit more...Hard to believe 293.60 for a plastic part!
Why do you need the valve cover? It's a clean and replace item unless something else happened to it. I'd be tempted in sending it out for cleaning and powder coating though. This should be a <$100 job with the oil change that should be done after the gasket is installed and the engine run ever so briefly or during.
