With all of the abbreviations and acronyms tied into BMW's (fer cryin' out loud, you couldn't even search the forums for "BMW" if you wanted to!!!) it is absolutely ridiculous that searches are limited to letter combinations longer than 3 letters/#'s. Let's say you want to search the forums for: ASC - nope! DSC - nope! OBC - nope! ABS - nope! M20 - nope! M30 - nope! M50 - nope! DTS - nope! DTC - nope! E30 - nope! GPS - nope! NAV - nope! SAV - nope! etc, etc, etc.! I mean, c'mon, really - I get that it keeps someone from doing spurious word searches, but seriously, are we at risk of the forums getting flooded from 3 letter searches?? This type of limitation doesn't exactly make it easy to find pertinent topics if they involve any abbreviations or acronyms! Who's going to bother to write out "Dynamic Stability Control" every SINGLE time! No One, that's who! [/rant]
For now I would suggest go to the home page and use the search box there. It will use Google's indexing of the site. It's the box below your user profile.
Hey, I don't mind typing out Dynamic Stability Control or Hill Descent Control or Antilock Braking System or Global Positioning Satellite or Sports Activity Vehicle every time! But I agree; nobody is really ever going to type out these things so searching for them by typing out the full word isn't going to turn up anything anyway. This should be revised.
I think the 3 letter issue is a limitation of the vBulletin forum software. This isn't the only vBulletin forum with that problem. As suggested, use Google and you'll have MUCH better results no matter what you are searching for. The only problem with the Google search is you can't search a specific sub-forum as far as I know. Just type "site:bmwcca.org/forum" (search term here) in the Google search bar. This works great for any other forum as well. Just add "site:" before the forum url. Example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...N5w&q=site:bmwcca.org/forum dsc&aq=f&oq=&aqi=
