Hello E39ers. I have some news to report. I added a Stage II suspension kit to my 1999 E39 Wagon and man, what an improvement. I was experiencing a low speed shudder in the front which prompted an evaluation of all front end components. My mechanic determined my shocks were wasted so i took the opportunity to upgrade all around. The Stage II kit is comprised of front shocks & spring, bigger sway bars and some other minor components. I also just upgraded to 18" staggered M5 wheels and Bridgestone 760 Potenzas. I did the tires a month before the suspension so I can isolate the results. The wheels & tires made an improvement in grip but I felt like the suspension wasn't giving the tires their best shot at holding the road. the car wasn't staying flat on the road. The suspension kit worked wonders. The car has an overall calm feeling now. On the highway crosswinds affect the driver a lot less. Pavement irregularities and potholes are more gracefully encountered. I have not tracked the car nor taken it on any twisties yet but off ramps and normal aggressive street driving give me the impression that the upgrade was well worth the money, which was not insignificant. This being a wagon I am always fighting the extra weight in the rear not to mention the rear suspension being different to accommodate a flat floor which you sedan drivers do not require. I will give Dinan a ringing endorsement and encourage any of you wishing to upgrade or replace suspension components to look no further. the shudder which so annoyed me is gone and I am one step closer to the M5 wagon I would love to create. Anyone have a M5 V8 they would like to get rid of cheap?
