Is a "performance" chip worth it? does it make any diff. on a stock BMW?

    On the older cars (80s-90s)

On the older cars (80s-90s) the right chip could make an improvement in performance. A new one like yours is pretty much optimized for power, although advetisers will sell you on boosts. Save the money for driving schools, suspension parts, or new tires!

You might gain a few hp, but

You might gain a few hp, but the normally-aspirated engines (N51/N52) aren't worth it.

This has been true for 12-15 years - they're all in a high state of tune anyway, in the search for efficiency and high output.
