I'm proud to announce I'm a new owner of a 1988 E30 cabrio. This is my 2nd restoration and one of the reasons I'm proud is that I convinced my wife to let me do it again! I bought the car from a mechanic who kept the car in good shape mechanically. Aesthetically, it's another story and it will be a work in progress for a while. The one main mechanical issue I have is the gearbox. Getting into gear is fine but there's a lot of "play" with the shifter. I'm sure it's just a bearing or worn out clip somewhere but I wanted to get some advice on how to efficiently attack this project. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
like every other E30, you probably have worn out bushing in your selector rod. You can just replace these with OEM parts, but a fantastic upgrade are parts from UUC: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3519-round-delrin-shifter-carrier-bushings-pair-most-bmws.aspx http://www.turnermotorsport.com/c-178-dssr-uuc-double-shear-selector-rod.aspx
