Hi my name is John! I just bought a white 1999 740iL with grey interior with only 48,000 miles originally from Arizona (the previous owner was a fanatic, and it shows as it's in like new condition). This is my first BMW since I had a 2002 back in the mid '70s. I also have a 2000 Jaguar Vanden Plas, and a 1999 Mercedes Benz SL500. I traded my '93 Mercedes Benz 400SEL in on the 740iL (I loved that car but it was getting a little long in the tooth). I just bought the 740iL yesterday so I'm still in the honeymoon period - but I'm loving it. Looking over the Dinan upgrades and other brand performance chips. Does anyone have any experience with this with a 1999 740iL as I'm just getting up to steam.
Hello John and Welcome To The E38 Family! I, too, am looking into a chip mod for my car and have heard nothing but fantastic things about the idea and Dinan itself! Remember too.. for the chip to really get it's full potential.. you will (or should) upgrade your air filter to atleast the K&N (plus, it's washable/reuseable!) and look into a free(er) flowing exhaust. Our cars are built well enough that these additions aren't necessary, per say, but since the engine will be higher reving and with a wider fuel map... I would (from experience as a mechanic and with my own other cars) recomend them! You might look into higher spark coils to also help compensate. Good Luck! -Gatsby
Thanks for your input Gatsby! I spoke with an owner of a BMW shop that does Dinan work and I asked him: "Will it give me better gas mileage?" and he said: "No. And don't do it for improving resale value either. Do it because that's what you want." Sounds like good advice to me! Here's the package I'm considering: Stage 2 Engine Software; Automatic Transmission Software; High Flow Cold Air Intake System; Free Flow Exhaust; Dinan Pedal Pad Set; Serial Numbered Dinan S-740 Plaque; Dinan Deck Lid Badge This should get me where I want to go fast enough.
Fast Enough....Touche Indeed! Please, if purchased, let me know your own experience and thoughts on the idea because I am thinking of it myself... Or the Vortex Supercharger. Thanks... and Good Luck!
