I searched the for a similar item before posting this. I have a 2002 530i. I have replaced the 1156 standard brake light bulbs with red CAN bus type LEDs. These LEDs are supposed to contain a resistor so that it emulates a standard incandescent bulb, and supposedly will not trigger a warning that a brake light failure is detected. After doing this, the brake light fault is happening anyway. I suspect that wiring a standard bulb parallel to the LED might solve this, and wiring a 6-ohm resister might do the job a too. Has anyone encountered this problem, and how has it been solved? I am not impressed with the brightness of the standard bulbs, especially compared to the blinding LEDs now common on the newer cars.
