Is it safe to disconnect battery (not loose settings)?

I'm about to install a Dice Silverline Pro iPod adaptor at the head unit of my 2002 330cic (E46). The instructions for initializing the adaptor after the install is to disconnect both battery cables, and then hold those cable ends together for a minute or two.

I'm wondering if any damage can be done (doubt it), or settings lost (such as seat memory and key programs) when doing this.

    Any comments appreciated.

Every winter I disconnect the battery when I store my e93 and I don't think I lose anything. I don't have seat memories set, but my radio stations are still there. (Though I don't know how)

Make sure the key is not in the ignition when disconnecting or reconnecting the battery or EWS problems could result. You may lose some memory settings from disconnecting the battery and will have to live with it.
