having problems starting my bmw

I put new roter and cap on car I am still not getting any spark from the coil. I want to know
if there is some kind of a code on the car that is stopng it from starting. or is there a voltage regulater from getting spark it is a 1984 733I
I live in Middletown Ny if anyone is close by
