Have a 04 325i, with SULEV motor, M56. Fuel pump went out, I'm told that pump is built into the tank, I hafta replace it all??!! Anybody have a used one?
Can i replace existing tank/pump with a tank that does not have a built in pump? Mechanic thinks the supports are there for a different tank.

The fuel pump on that can be replaced separate, the suction jet pump can not be replaced seperate in the sulev version. Replacing the pump is a bit more of pain than a non sulev vehicle but can be done.

is it possible to replace fuel pump without pulling the tank?
OR, is it possible to add an external pump, using the existing power and fuel lines?

You don't have to pull the tank just remove the rear seat on the passenger side there should be a access panel to get to the fuel pump.

If you need help with this, try E46fanatics forum. I'm sure you can find, at least, one thread solving this problem.
