I have an E34 525i w/automatic transmission. It looks like the engine oil dipstick has a round, red handle; is that correct or is that the ATF dipstick? I know some models have an ATF dipstick and others do not.
That is your engine dipstick! You should be able to trace the tube down into the block. On models that also have a trans dipstick it is usually yellow and closer to the firewall than the engine oil dipstick. The trans dipstick tube should route back towards the rear of the car.
