My memory is a little fuzzy on this one since it has been ~10 years since I diagnosed my last E30 cruise control problem.

If I remember correctly, the cruise control on an E30 relies on the brake light circuit to operate properly. If you have dirty bulb connections or improper bulbs (brass base vs. the correct nickel base) in the brake lamp location of the tail lights then the cruise can get a little funky.

Also check that the brake light switch and the clutch switch mounted above each respective pedal is properly adjusted.
