My Brake Light stays on. There is also the notification to "check brake linings". Took it to the mechanic and all the brake pads are fine and the sensors are fine. Any thoughts on what could be going on? To be clear this is not the light if your brake lights are not working.
Is this the light on the dash? Not certain, but it could be indicating low brake fluid. There is a float in the reservoir and if the fluid it too low, or the switch is bad or hung up, it could illuminate a warning light. Again, not certain, but this is how it works on my M5.... I am new to the E53. No harm in checking it out as part of the troubleshooting. As for the brake lining warning. A broken wire, anywhere in the sensor loop will cause the warning. Have your mechanic disconnect the sensors one at a time and plug in a "known good" sensor and see if the warning goes away. I have had this happen to me and the sensor looked perfect. The mechanic can also see if there is an open circuit in each pad sensor with his multimeter or circuit tester without removal right at the connector. This is a fairly simple system, if you understand how it works.
