I have a 2003 M3 and apparently hit a pothole going about 60 and the two side airbags went off. They were so loud that I could not tell how hard the impact was from the pothole, but in any case there was not damage to the tires or wheels. You would think something like that would pop a tire before it would set off airbags.

Has anyone had this happen, and did you get any assistance from BMW on this (sounds like too touchy of a sensor). The dealer here said there would be no help - just about $1,500 in charges!

Contact BMW NA immediately. Don't authorize any repair until you talk to BMW NA. Things like this are such a huge liability that you could easily sue, especially because it could have caused you to lose control of the car. Be nice to BMW NA, but don't be afraid to mention attourney (in passing) an NHTSA.
