Just wanted to throw this question out and see if it's possible.

After discovering that I had a small crack in my cylinder head I had the hairbrained idea that it might be possible to swap the head out for a similar year M5 head.
I can't find any size specs online so, is it possible?

    thanks for any feedback!

No, totally different engine design. However, you can just install an M engine in your Touring. Here's my 92 with 50k miles S52 M3 engine installed last year. It was a fairly simple bolt in and I chose to retain the factory automatic although it was rebuilt first. Euro M5T sway bars, 540i brakes, euro M5 forged wheels, euro smiley headlights, E32 7 series front seats, modified euro M5 instrument cluster, E46 M-tech airbag steering wheel, Z3 CD player, well you get the picture. It also has the E34 M bumper covers and side panels along with Schnitzer exhaust. It'll be going in the shop for paint soon since the original beige clearcoat isn't in great condition.

    great Car Paul!!!!

    Hi Paul,
I have a 95 525iT and I was also considering some conversion to make it into/close to a M5. Does your roof rattle? I think my seal around the outside of the sun roofs has shrunk over time allowing the panels to rattle. I took some rubber sheeting and pushed it between the seal and the roof and that really helped.
    Any suggestions?

How quick is your car now that you put in the other engine?

    Thanks,

Hi Don. No roof rattles here. I think your probably right about the seals but it could also be the machanism itself. Does it rattle with the roofs open?

Quick? The Touring's a heavy car so it's quicker and faster but not M3 quick. Still, it's suprised a rice burner or two.:)

I love blowing by those rice burners as well. I put an ETA chip in mine and it really helped out. The roof does not rattle when it is open. acutally I keep it closed. I 'll repalce the seal next time around I just put in shocks. I got a great deal at BAV auto, $461 for bilsteins. the ride is stiffer but very level in those high speed turns. My CD player skips a little more often but that is on the list as well.
