New iDrive Features Released

BMW has released new iDrive features, namely real-time news feeds from CNN and a social networking/geotagging feature that lets you share your location and destination with friends.

Is access to the 'news' via the i-Drive controller or the overhead 'access' switch?

Don, the overhead switch is considered an "SOS" button (although using it isn´t akin to calling 911)

If your car is equipped with the CIC-based iDrive and has the Convenience Package, access is via the BMW Search option from the main menu.

Didn't sign up for the 'convenience package', but spoke w/some very courteous folks on the 'sos' switch during activation.

The stock/news/weather worked on my car for a week and now says that the service is unavailable.

Did you pay for the Convenience Package?

I did not.

A subscription is needed to access the services. There was an undisclosed trial period a week or so ago but that is over.
