Greetings! I am hoping someone can free me from the torment of my ignorance. I bought an '07 335i Coupe with the convenience package in October. To this day, I cannot get the seat and mirror position to maintain the position I set them in. I am the only driver. I have tried both FOBs and changing the FOB battery. When I adjust the seat and mirrors to my liking, I press the seat memory button until it lights, release it and then press the memory1 button right below it. I have tried this with both the key inserted and with the key removed. I have tried it with the car running and not running. Invariably, when I leave and lock the car, (usually with my finger), I return, unlock and start the car, the seat and mirror position will stubbornly adjust to a position that is clearly stored somewhere. I have read the manual 10 times and find it verbose, yet nebulous. Can anyone please tell me WTF I am missing? Sleepless in NE Ohio
Thats is one thing. Instead of using comfort access to lock the vehicle (touching the door handle) use the lock button instead. The key memory of the vehicle actually saves the seat position from last use not from the seat memory buttons. So if you move the seat to another place and lock the vehicle, that seat position for that key will be saved. And if the second key is used the seats will move to the last position they were in when the vehicles was locked with key 2. You can in settings turn this feature off if you like but will have to do it for both keys. Sorry if this isn't perfectly clear it kinda hard to explain. If you have any questions please ask.
My good man, I have not yet tried that, but I will tomorrow and report back. You might have just gotten my New Year off to a good start!
So here are the results. I get in the car, set the seat and mirrors to my liking, save the settings to Memory 1 on the seat just for good measure, get out, lock the door with the lock button on the key, go in the house, wait 15 minutes, go out to the garage and unlock the car with the key, and instantly the mirror returns to some phantom position. The seat seems to be staying put, but that freaking mirror will not stay where I want it. I am going to try your suggestion again with the other key just because I am out of bullets.
My apologies I thought the mirrors and seat would move. If the mirrors are just the ones doing this BMW has a SIB for this the number is 51 36 08. The bulletin states the issue has be incorporated into the ista program that the dealership uses. But the most common issue is corrosion at the connectors of the mirrors. You can try cleaning the connector first and applying dielectric grease but if that won't fix it then you need to replace the mirror motor. There are other things that can cause this in the system as well such as modules and wiring. The mirrors remember where they are for the memory by measure the motor resistance and kinda of corrosion will throw that off and then mirror will freak out and move into some phantom position. This of course is only for the effected mirror (left or right). Hope this leads you down the right path sorry for the confusion before.
I suppose the good news is that I am not as obtuse as I had myself believing I was. The bad news needs no introduction. The bottom line is, that with some measure of certainty, you have identified the probable culprit. For that, I offer my sincere gratitude. Thank you very much!
