Hey everyone, new from Portland Oregon a few months ago. Always enjoyed riding around in friend’s cars. Born a domestic muscle car/hot rod, gear head. Midwest upbringing lots of races, rod shows, cruise ins with my family…mostly Dad and Grandpa. 40 year power sports service technician…race support, road/dirt/pwc/snowmobile. Eventual engine builder dyno tune niche adopted. Fast forward into semi retirement…first BMW came from a Craigslist inquiry gone bad. Ended up getting blocked by the guy who moving and over the barrel so to speak. Sent my buddy with my truck and trailer to hustle my first BMW. This 2000 540 touring with M package started out advertised at $4500. The guys marketing savvy was completely absent. The ad ended up at $1500 and my buddy brought me back $700 change. It ran but had lots of oil leaks, great interior sans radio where engine bay smoke was definitely coming through firewall somewhere. Most of the cam cover bolts were loose due to I can only assume decades of heavy hands. Having worked on motorcycles I was an expert with thread repair. Most people get scared when they notice they pulled the threads out of the actual cam caps. That included me early in my career when my manager decided I needed a skills test on his KZ 900 Z1R. When I finally took the car for a kind shake down drive I really enjoyed myself. I bought the car with the intention of an LS swap and go drifty. At this point my entire family had been leasing/driving BMW cars/suvs for years. My brother picks me up one day for a family event because my license somehow got suspended. He had just procured a 2016 M5 and it was pretty but also white. Not my first color choice but whatever. He’s definitely conservative in every way and comments to me, “it’s pretty fast”. I was very suspicious and implored him to prove it. So when we finally had some opened space he kind of mashed on it. I was definitely impressed and asked for more…now really impressed. Too quiet though for my taste…I thought. Couple weeks later I got myself into a 2016 M6 comp edition. Now I have a collection. What I’m after now is real information about my M6 with regard to actual production numbers/colors. I’ve read too many different things.
