A few months ago, I purchased a 2006 M3 with SMG and ~ 22,500 miles. The first mechanical failure was the hydraulic pump. After a ~ $3200.00 dealer repair, I have a car that making mechanical noises when shifting between first and second gears and second and third gear. The dealership claims these noises will dissipate over time because the pump is part of the car's "learned value" system. In clarifying, the dealership explained the car will learn the driver's input and make adjustments. Artificial intelligence, hummm. Regardless, my hands are tied... must have the car. Any suggestions on mechanical noises or "learned value"?
Me thinks the shop may be full of, you know. There shouldn't be that much noise that it becomes annoying.
I have replaced a lot of these pumps and never had any noise when shifting after replacement. As for the learned values they are telling the truth. To put it basically the transmission will learn to how you drive the same is for the engine management system. Of course any time you replace a component that effects these adaptations they need to be reset along with the clutch adaptations since they did have the transmission out. Can you please describe the noise a little more? For instance is the sound only there when moving and shifting or can you hear it when shifting at a stand still? Is it only in those first three gears or the higher ones as well? There are many components to the SMG system that could cause noise just wanna see if we can narrow it down a little more.
