I am in New York and seriously considering ED for a 528i...i was wondering if dealers negotiate price starting from the ED price, or is that price fairly set in stone...any comments would be welcomed. As well any hotel recommendations in Munich - likely will only be staying for a day or two and the driving to Switzerland.
Not sure about dealers in the NY area, but DFW dealers will not budge below MSRP, so I went through a dealer in the Chicago (Hi Irv!) area that deals above invoice. JSpira might have suggestions for a dealer in the NY area. From what I have read, alot of people stay at the Marriot, but I went a different route and stayed at Holiday Inn Sud (southern Munich). It was within walking distance to the Ubahn station, and had to change trains once to get the BMW EDC (pre-Welt). I didnt really need alot of creature comforts, just a place to sleep, but it was the only hotel I stayed at in Germany last year that had decent A/C. They had a decent underground parking garage too.
You make the best deal you can with your dealer - it's just as if you were buying it for U.S. delivery. This price has nothing to do with the ED discount. That is a published amount, depending on the model you buy, is over and above any negotiated dealer pricing, and is non-negotiable. FYI in our case my 335ci convertible had an ED discount of about $3500.
We stayed at the Marriott. They have excellent underground parking; good lighting, clean, large spaces. (hey, it's a new car!). It's about a three block walk to the subway that gets you to the Welt. As for pricing, I started with the price shown on the web. The dealer thought the discount was just for the base price - not options. I didn't and got a discount on the base, factory options and dealer installed options (which are marked up too much anyway). All in all, like another said, you can go in and negotiate just like any other auto purchase. And don't think they don't discount! My dealer started our exchange by saying BMW doesn't like to "lower itself" by negotiating like any other dealer. Later I was waiting in the Sales Manager's office while every sales guy brought him a deal. Practically everyone gets some price break. If your dealer won't on ED, go to another. And always show him you are walking to indicate you have the ultimate choice. There are certain dealers in the country that like selling ED. Try E46 Fanatics to get some locations.
ask them for the ED confidential invoice. I negotiated $500 over that in Orlando. They will look at you funny at first but will fork it over eventually if you stick to your guns. Go over to bimmerfest.com. You should be able to find the pre June 1st invoice prices for them there.
I just saw your post today. The preferred dealer for European Delivery in the New York metropolitan area is Ricki Shamen at DiFeo BMW. She will work from e.d. invoice and she does not add any extras or fees to the deal, i.e. very straight forward to work with. Just getting my 10th BMW from her this week.

Very strange I went to Manhattan BMW about 10 days ago and emailed them last week with what I was looking for, as well as left a second vmail today - no response in either case. Also told me during my visit could not order a MY09 model until September, even though I read somewhere else the MY09 could be ordered (understand price not available). Either the CA is on vacation or just not interested in the business (or both). Look forward in finding a good dealer and finally driving on the autobahn!
You can order a MY2009 car, with some exceptions (7er series), right now. Tell Ricki how you found her.
The best CAs as per popularity in no specific order on bimmerfest are Ricki @ DiFeo in NJ, Joern @ Passport in MD, Irv @ Motorwerks in Illinois, Adrian @ BMW/Mini of S. Atlanta in Atlanta and Phillippe Khan @ South Bay BMW/Mini in Torrance, Ca. They will all deal from ED invoice found on Bimmerfest. Usually it will range from 500-1500 over ED invoice. All options are MSRP invoice. All will deal w/ you via phone and FedEx. If you choose to deal w/ a CA far from home you can always choose to take redelivery via PCD in SC. BMW will put you up in a hotel and feed you 3 meals. Usually your room is booked for the day b4 your pickup, but you can change the check-in to the day of pick up. We did this b/c we were driving out to Illinois for the holidays and didn't want to drive after a very tiring, exciting day. So we drove down from DC at 11pm, arrived at the hotel around 6am. The hotel was even nice enough to allow us to put our things in the rm early. We ate breakfast and caught the shuttle to the PCD. Yes we were tired, but that quickly subsided one we were on the track. Ate lunch at the PCD, dinner back at the hotel and was out w/i 5 minutes of hitting the pillow. Checked out the following morning (breakfast is on your dime) nice and refreshed for the drive to Illinois. A bit info overload, but I figured I would give it all to you.

Hi, I just read in a bmwcca post that bmw is allowing 7% discount on european delivery of m3 as of feb 11,2009. How would one negotiate the price for ED, now that discount is offered?? i am planning to order one soon.Thanks for any input.i am in tampa area and dnt know if dealer would agree to ed invoice price.but i can order from new york or any delaer and i cn pick up my car in South Carolina.
You can negotiate the same way you would for any other car. Start at invoice, add dealer profit (incl. all fees) and see if the dealer accepts. I would imagine that, for an M3, the dealer would want at least $1500 profit. You can order from any dealer and pick up in South Carolina. I would recommend you start with Ricki Shamen at BMW of Tenafly and see how that goes and take it from there.
i had called ricki but she cant take orders from out of area clients. so the best thing is go to your nearest bmw dealer and negotiate. thats what i am gonna do
Many people buy fast cars to cope with ED, but there are pills you can take for that (Levitra, Viagra, etc.)
