Could someone tell me whether the e46 has the same type of body panel I.D. tags as previous models and where they should be? I have been snooping around at some local cars but out of three, none have a visible tag on any body panels. I'm concerned that they may have been re-painted and or repaired with non factory parts but I am not that familiar with these models yet.

I'm pretty sure the VIN tags on body panels stopped after the e36 for the 3 series.

Yep, I've got an E39, E46 and an E90 and none of them have panel tags. This was stopped a long time ago.

    Re: Vin Tags

Thanks for the info, I feel better about the cars I've seen, but feel that having the tags was a great way to visually quick check the body for obvious signs of repairs during an initial inpection of the car.
