The coolant warning light in my 1987 325 conv. comes on everytime the car starts up. Sometimes it will go off after being run for a while. I have checked the coolant tank and it is full. Any ideas?

Did you check the coolant level cold? The level sensor (float) is a common problem on BMWs of that vintage and pretty inexpensive to replace. Check to make sure the "nut" on the new one has the same thread as your tank or swap the nut from your old sensor to the new one...or replace the expansion tank to fit the new sensor.

I've found the oil-level sensors to be fairly bullet-proof over many decades of use. The check-panel display board itself could be the problem, too.

Thanks for the help. I will check the float when I get home.

I'd suggest checking the coolant level cold first, and topping it up if necessary.
