Description

General History
Offered for sale is this 1967 BMW 2000CS 2..0L M10 inline-four fitted (VIN 1106496). with Weber DCOE40s and mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in metallic brown over a black interior.

Imported from Germany in 1976 to Californica and sold by Chico CA BMW dealer. Within 2 years of purchase the color was switched from red to brown (Toyota brown) and applied to the exterior, engine bay and trunk. The first owner drove it until 1985 and then stored it. The second owner in California bought and restored it in 1985 ultimately selling it in 2017. The car has been traded going from California to Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts and then ultimately to me in Ohio in April 2022. I drove the car from Boston to Cleveland and since then on weekends and have put on approximately 1,000 miles.

Modifications include: Engine replaced with a 1968 2002 based on serial no. 1-663-650 (manufactured between Feb – Dec 1968)., Weber DCOE40s carburetors, retro Europa M18 stereo, Hirshmann Electric Aerial Power Chrome Antenna, side mirrors, custom made steering column cover and armrest supports made from walnut, 3-point seat belts, 3-spoke steering wheel ST Suspension with front and rear sway bars and 14” Alpina wheels. This 2000CS is a good driver as it sits and presents an excellent opportunity to simply drive and enjoy as-is or to bring to the next level. The 95,637 indicated miles are not believed to be accurate.

Work since 2022 includes: restoration of upper dash in black leather, middle dash with new walnut veneer and lower dash wrapped in black vinyl; replacement of many window and door seals; replaced front (Bilstein) and rear (KYG) shocks, fuel sender, battery, rear brake drums, side mirrors, radio, antenna, front bumper guards, seatbelts and more; Rebuilt speedometer and distributor; had car tuned up with a compression test (cyl 1-3: 200psi, cyl 4: 190psi).

Work between May 2017 – October 2020: The prior owner reported work that included: complete restoration of both the front and rear subframes and associated suspension components, ST Suspension front and rear sway bars, new springs and suspension bushings, new brakes (calipers, pads, rotors), new Pirelli P7 tires, new trunk floor/trim, new interior carpeting, and preemptive application of POR-15 to common rust areas in shock towers.

Extract from a posting in BringaTrailer (May 17, 2017):
The vehicle was placed in long-term storage from 1985 until 2016. Service was performed in 2017 to make this example fully roadworthy. Work included installing new valve guides, a new alternator, re-coring the radiator, adding vented front brake rotors, and rebuilding the Weber carburetors. The car participated in the 2017 Snowball Rally. The body is thought to have been originally finished in red and was repainted by the original owner in the current brown. This included a color change to the engine bay, door jams, and trunk. 14″ Alpina steel wheels present well and are fitted with Pirelli Cinturato tires. European headlamps were fitted by the original owner and replace the four sealed beamed units typically found on stateside models. The condition of the bumpers display a dent up front and a slight twist on the right side of the rear unit. Inside, seat upholstery shows some wear but remains free of any rips or tears. A three-spoke wood wheel replaces the factory piece and is accompanied by stock instrumentation and a crack-free wood dash fascia. All gauges, controls, and other electrics, are said to remain functional.
