My 2000 328i appears to be suffering from a failing xenon low-beam headlight. Symptoms include discoloration of the projected light (pinkish, incandenscent color instead of bright, pure white), and random, intermittent off-on blinking before turning off completely. I don't think it's motion or vibration-related, as both the discoloration and blinking occur when the car is stationary. So far, turning off the headlights for a few seconds, then turning them back on will restart the failed headlight for awhile. Does this sound like the headlight is failing? If so, what part is failing - the bulb itself? Thanks for the help. Jeff
xenon bulb failure the best suggestions I can offer is to start swapping parts from your left to right headlight. There are four potential failures: bulb, ignitor, control unit and lamp control module (aka LKM) you should start by swapping the bulbs left to right to see if the failure followed the bulb, if it did replace the failed bulb, if not do the same with the ignitor than with the control unit. If you still have not found the failure, i would suggest taking it to a reputable mechanic or dealership so they can check the LKM because if it does need to be replaced it will have to be coded to your car. please update us.
Thanks for the suggested diagnostic routine. I'll post back once I run through these steps and can isolate the problem. Jeff
