On 1 Feb, my 2004 X3 moon roof failed to close fully. It remained slightly open. I took it to the BMW dealer here in Honolulu on 3 Feb. Was told the frame had shattered in places and needed to be completely replaced and significant part and labor costs. The service rep indicated that he had heard of this happening in other X3's. Just checking to see of anyone else is aware of such issues. Thanks and aloha, Don
Hi Don, My daughter's 2004 X3 roof also failed to close and the dealer is charging $3,500 at Global Imports BMW. They charged her $125 for trying to close it. We're trying to find someone who can just close it. Good Luck!
How to close the X3 sunroof manually You're going to need the Allen wrench in the cargo floor. Here is the link for the owner's manual. Go to page 24 and follow the instructions http://www.bmwusa.com/PDF_2c0f516a-9028-455f-b6b3-fc6ed187788d.arox
I have replaced several sunroofs on X3s. The panorama roof is not a cheap repair. You may be able to close it by bumping the switch in short increments. Otherwise using a hex driver as mentioned above to manually close it is the only option.
