My wife has a 2006 Z4 3.0si. We love the car and I truly enjoy driving it when I'm not in my E30. However, we have noticed cracks under the coating of the wood grain dash starting to appear. We have done nothing to cause it. I clean the car for her and its been kept in great condition. Her warranty is scheduled to expire in October. The car just passed the 30K mark. The car is in excellent condition except for a few paint chip touch ups. It just makes me sick to look at the dash and know its only goint to get worse in time. Pictures attached. Its hard to see them in the photo. There are four cracks from 3 inches to 11 inches long. It reminds me of laquer cracking on paint when its applied too thick. I'm wondering if this has been an issue in other Z-4s or if its just her car? Is it covered undered the factory warranty? Zdaneman sends
The warranty is bumper-to-bumper, materials and workmanship excluding wear items--they should be covered. Three of the four door trim strips on my (ex-)E46 developed cracks in the finish in its first year or so. All were replaced under warranty, no questions asked (and thankfully, the replacements had a stronger finish).
