I would have to agree. Performance tires really only work 15-20% of the year. Other times they are flat out dangerous.
I'm in New England, and have safely run summer performance tires on both the M3 and the daily driver from April until November. The summer tires I've chosen (Toyo T1R) work great on dry roads or rain. However, from December to March, the M3 gets tucked into the garage for hibernation and the winter tires go on the daily.
