On the 'ti? Gonna do a short-shift kit, guibo, center-support bearing, trans-fluid change, and trans-seals while they're in there too? Steering rack... sounds expensive - eek!
Yep. Already have a UUC SSK. Did the guibo and center load bearing last year when the driveshaft was replaced. $$$$ Did tranny fluid at the beginning of my driving season. I have needed the throwout bearing for several years. It would stick when cold in the morning. The sad part is the car will feel no better once I'm done paying for it. This is all because I wanted to fix a leak. I have 3 events coming up all within the next 3 weeks. At +245,000 miles, I really am not complaining. Original clutch.
Replaced the torn up comfort seat with the black sport seats! first step on the road to a black interior. Also picked up a clean, lower mileage M20 with a rebuilt head to swap with my tired M20. (this was all this past weekend)
What I did today Well, I rolled up the transponder cable that goes from the left front wheel through the engine compartment and into the cockpit on the right side, put a Velcro strip around it, and tucked it back under the hood. . .
Changed the fog lights from cracked ones to new ones. However... Someone epoxied in the drivers side light so it took me way longer than expected. I had to remove the front wheel to hammer it out. There's the crap that held it in place. New fog lights installed. Long day.
I have a set. Just didn't break them out for this job. I'm breaking them out today actually and spilling her guts for a fan delete.
Isn't it just amazing, the things hack mechanics will do to a car? Knuckleheads. Their telltales come in handy at times, though. When I was shopping for an E36, I rejected one 325is the moment the hood went up, when I saw the radiator was held in place with baling wire.
Drove the crap out of my ti at Barber this weekend. My new favorite track. Heart of Dixie does a great job.
Yesterday, I fixed a scratch. That's the executive summary. What really happened is that starting Monday and ending yesterday, I turned this: Into this: ...thereby correcting an irritating reminder of my own stupidity and carelessness. I think this was the second-biggest automotive DIY project I've ever tackled, as measured by the time and effort required. By importance of getting it right, though, this easily tops the list!
did a water pump on my E46 on Saturday, wasn't too hard but between that and the fuel leak on my E30 I missed the autocross scheduled for that day
Today, I put Bilstein struts on my E46 323iT (touring). The rears are a PITA to do on the Touring. I started disassembling the rear interior of the car to get to the upper shock mounts. Hopefully, I'll finish the job tomorrow evening. I also replaced a rusted exhaust hanger. Next job will be to flush the brakes/clutch hydraulics.
